Food Through the Ages
This week in class we talked about immigration and the blending of cultures. To show how this still applies today as it did hundreds of years ago, I'm going to write about all the different food I've eaten this weekend. On Friday night for dinner, I ate Indian-Italian fusion lasagna, a slightly more spicy and flavorful version of the typical Italian Dish. On Saturday for breakfast, I ate cereal which was designed in America. For lunch, I had my brother's Indian-American fusion fried fish (not really he doesn’t like anything with flavor so it’s honestly really bland). For dinner, my dad made Southern Indian biryani with chicken. For dessert, I had Italian tiramisu which my brother made. This morning I had rice, thorun, and pickel at church for group lunch. I also ate ice cream because I was procrastinating writing this and food is a great way to procrastinate. While I had many different types of food from all over the world they all share something in common, the recipes came from groups of people who moved to the United States from foreign countries (except for cereal but I don't think that counts). Food all over the United States represents the diverse backgrounds of all the people who came here and their unique situations.
By spreading culinary traditions, groups of people from all around the world were able to hold on to their heritage through food, passing recipes from generation to generation.
Also, my mom is in India right now which means there are three chefs in the house without anyone to tell us not to cook more. There's no room in the fridge and I don't know what to do because it's my responsibility to figure out how to fit everything into the fridge and I have no idea how to do that because there's no room. Last week's food is almost over so maybe I can figure it out… We always cook everything on the weekends and eat it throughout the week, so we don't have to cook during the week. That’s why we have so much food, it'll be gone by Friday. But that doesn't change the fact that the food doesn't fit in the fridge right now. I'll include some photos below of all the food (it was rather strange taking pictures of everything I ate during the weekend and I forgot a couple).
You are hereby legally required to make me that lasagna the next time we see each other (I'll make cookies)
